SUMMARY:Riot Reads Book Club
DESCRIPTION:We’re back! For March\, we’re reading The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson! A cozy read to beat the winter blues. \n\n\n\nWe will meet at Indy Reads\, as usual. To get to the room\, pass the checkout counter\, go down the hall\, and take a left. Masks welcome\, but not mandatory. \n\n\n\nThe Seed Keeper by Diane WilsonRosalie Iron Wing has grown up in the woods with her father\, Ray\, a former science teacher who tells her stories of plants\, of the stars\, of the origins of the Dakota people. Until\, one morning\, Ray doesn’t return from checking his traps. Told she has no family\, Rosalie is sent to live with a foster family in nearby Mankato—where the reserved\, bookish teenager meets rebellious Gaby Makespeace\, in a friendship that transcends the damaged legacies they’ve inherited. \n\n\n\nOn a winter’s day many years later\, Rosalie returns to her childhood home. A widow and mother\, she has spent the previous two decades on her white husband’s farm\, finding solace in her garden even as the farm is threatened first by drought and then by a predatory chemical company. Now\, grieving\, Rosalie begins to confront the past\, on a search for family\, identity\, and a community where she can finally belong. In the process\, she learns what it means to be descended from women with souls of iron—women who have protected their families\, their traditions\, and a precious cache of seeds through generations of hardship and loss\, through war and the insidious trauma of boarding schools. \n\n\n\nWeaving together the voices of four indelible women\, The Seed Keeper is a beautifully told story of reawakening\, of remembering our original relationship to the seeds and\, through them\, to our ancestors.

SUMMARY:Author Reading: Davide Tarsitano
DESCRIPTION:Join Davide Tarsitano on March 16th at 4pm for a reading of his new book\, Hollow. Author Q&A and signing to follow!\n\n\nIndy Reads is thrilled to welcome back local horror writer\, Davide Tarsitano\, on March 16th at 4pm for a reading of his newest novel\, Hollow. The reading will be followed by an author Q&A and signing. \nThis reading is recommended for ages 13+. \nAll proceeds from purchases at Indy Reads directly support our adult education programming. \n\n\n\nThe world of Peter Hanson\, emerging true crime writer\, is about to fall apart. He is informed by the police that both his parents have been found dead in their bed. The case is quickly closed as an accident\, despite the doubts of Robert Cooper\, the homicide investigator in charge of the case. \nDespite the support of the whole neighborhood\, Peter goes through a really challenging phase where grief mixes with strange manifestations and hideous nightmares to the point where he starts having doubts about his state of mind: the buzz of flies\, the smell of rot and the excruciating babble of a thousand mournful voices. \nThanks to the support of Jack Sullivan\, a former priest specialized in demonic exorcisms\, Peter realizes that sanity and logic have very little to do with the events unfolding. A dark force is at play: an ancient and insatiable evil that feeds off negative human emotion is on the hunt for a new prey. \n\n\n\nDavide Tarsitano is an author of horror and dystopian novels. He was born in Cosenza\, a small town in southern Italy. Tarsitano has won the 2022 Book Fest Literary Contest for Best Horror Novel and The Reader’s Favorite 2022 Award in the same category. He currently lives in Indianapolis with his wife Shanea and his two dogs Lola and Ralph.Published works:The Tooth Fairy (2022)Hollow (2023) \n\n\n\nThis event is Pay-What-You-Can!
