They are always filled to brim with unicorn energy and enjoy spending each story hour with their little royal friends. Their favorite book as a kid was Where The Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. \n\n\n\nAqua MarieHey my name is Aqua Marie. She/her are my pronouns in drag. I have been doing Drag since November 2023. I have helped with the Indy Drag Theater with a few productions. I have my B.S. in Early Childhood Administration\, so I have a huge passion for reading stories with children. I love that I get to use this to bring two of my passions together and share that with others! \n\n\nFor more information\, please email bookstore@indyreads.org. \nIndy Reads is a 501c3 nonprofit. Our mission is to empower adults and their families through literacy\, English language skills\, and job readiness programming. SUMMARY:Riot Reads Book Club
DESCRIPTION:For October\, we’ll read When We Were Birds by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo! To get to the room pass the checkout counter\, go down the hall\, and take a left. Masks welcome but not mandatory. \n\n\n\nWhen We Were Birds by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo \n\n\n\nA mythic love story set in Trinidad\, Ayanna Lloyd Banwo’s radiant debut is a masterwork of lush imagination and exuberant storytelling–a spellbinding and hopeful novel about inheritance\, loss\, and love’s seismic power to heal. \n\n\n\nIn the old house on a hill\, where the city meets the rainforest\, Yejide’s mother is dying. She is leaving behind a legacy that now passes to Yejide: one St Bernard woman in every generation has the power to shepherd the city’s souls into the afterlife. But after years of suffering her mother’s neglect and bitterness\, Yejide is looking for a way out. \n\n\n\nRaised in the countryside by a devout Rastafarian mother\, Darwin has always abided by the religious commandment not to interact with death. He has never been to a funeral\, much less seen a dead body. But when the only job he can find is grave digging\, he must betray the life his mother built for him in order to provide for them both. Newly shorn of his dreadlocks and his past\, and determined to prove himself\, Darwin finds himself adrift in a city electric with possibility and danger. \n\n\n\nYejide and Darwin will meet inside the gates of Fidelis\, an ancient and sprawling cemetery\, where the dead lie uneasy in their graves and a reckoning with fate beckons them both.
