SUMMARY:Drag Story Hour with Prince Brentlee and Aqua Marie!
DESCRIPTION:Join Prince Brentlee and Aqua Marie for our Drag Story Hour! Fun for the entire family!\n\n\nThe Event \nDrag Story Hour uses the art of drag in children’s story hours to spread literacy\, love\, and acceptance! Join Prince Brentlee and Aqua Marie as they capture the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and give kids a glamorous and positive role model. This is a family-friendly event\, and all ages are welcome! \n\n\n\nPrince Brentlee (he/they) is the drag pop sensation of Indianapolis that has more energy than a can of Red Bull spiked with a 5hr energy. They are always filled to brim with unicorn energy and enjoy spending each story hour with their little royal friends. Their favorite book as a kid was Where The Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. \n\n\n\nAqua MarieHey my name is Aqua Marie. She/her are my pronouns in drag. I have been doing Drag since November 2023. I have helped with the Indy Drag Theater with a few productions. I have my B.S. in Early Childhood Administration\, so I have a huge passion for reading stories with children. I love that I get to use this to bring two of my passions together and share that with others! \n\n\n\nThis event is Pay What You Can — Here’s what your Suggested Donation can do for the Indy Reads community: \nFREE – This ticket is for attendees that would like to attend this event and are unable to purchase a ticket. Indy Reads values our community and facilitators. We are proud to provide programming to all. Indy Reads strives to bring the very best programming to Fountain Square and all Hoosiers. Thank you for helping us to keep our quality programs accessible for all! \n$20 – This donation covers the cost of two attendees to this event. If you are attending as an individual\, your ticket at this level makes it possible for another who cannot afford a ticket to attend. It is only through the generosity of our community that we are able to support programs that enrich the lives of all Hoosiers. Thank you for your support! \nOther – “Pay What You Can” really does mean pay what you can. Indy Reads appreciates that every one of our community members is able to support our vision of 100% literacy for all in different ways. Whether you can pay $5 or $50\, we are so excited to see you – and thank you for your support!

SUMMARY:Riot Reads Book Club
DESCRIPTION:For October\, we’re reading Too Soon by Betty Shamieh! \n\n\n\nWe will meet at Indy Reads\, as usual. To get to the room\, pass the checkout counter\, go down the hall\, and take a left. Masks welcome\, but not mandatory. \n\n\n\nAbout the Riot Reads Book Club \n\n\n\nInterested in reading books by authors whose voices are often pushed to the margins? Join this book club focusing on books about social justice from authors who know what they’re talking about. Topics include culture\, disability\, politics\, race\, religion\, sexuality\, sex and gender\, socioeconomic status\, and anything else we want to put on the table. \n\n\n\nWe understand that life gets busy. And we also get that\, for many of us\, talking about books is a launching pad to talk about the things most important to us. So\, even if you haven’t had a chance to finish the book (or even get that far into it…)\, please feel free to join us for a lively discussion. Anyone is welcome! \n\n\n\nAbout Too Soon by Betty Shamieh \n\n\n\nArabella gets an unexpected chance at love when she’s thrust into a conflict and history she’s tried to avoid all her life. \n\n\n\nZoya is playing matchmaker for her last unmarried granddaughter and stirring up buried memories. \n\n\n\nNaya is keeping a secret from her children that will change all their lives. \n\n\n\nThirty-five-year-old Arabella\, a New York theatre director whose dating and career prospects are drying up\, is offered an opportunity to direct a risqué cross-dressing interpretation of a Shakespeare classic—that might garner international attention—in the West Bank. Her mother\, Naya\, and grandmother\, Zoya\, hatch a plot to match her with Aziz\, a Palestinian American doctor volunteering in Gaza. Arabella agrees to meet Aziz\, since her growing feelings for Yoav\, a celebrated Israeli American theatre designer\, seem destined for disaster… \n\n\n\nWith biting hilarity\, Too Soon introduces us to a trio of bold and unforgettable voices. This dramatic saga follows one family’s epic journey fleeing war-torn Jaffa in 1948\, chasing the American Dream in Detroit and San Francisco in the sixties and seventies\, hustling in the New York theatre scene post-9/11\, and daring to stage a show in Palestine in 2012. Upon learning one of them is living on borrowed time\, the three women fight to live\, make art\, and love on their own terms. A funny\, sexy\, and heart-wrenching literary debut\, Too Soon illuminates our shared history and asks\, how can we set ourselves free?
