Anderson: The Birth, Life and Death of Industrial Unionism

In 1935, the third year of the Roosevelt administration and the fifth year of the Great Depression, New York Senator Robert Wagner introduced, Congress passed, and President Roosevelt signed the National Labor Relations Act. This created the legal foundation for the birth of industrial unionism which was born in several Midwestern cities, including Anderson, Indiana, fathered by the United Auto Workers (“UAW”). This book tells the story of the birth, growth, and eventual demise in Anderson in 2007. It is part of the history of the United States and the middle class in the Twentieth Century.
