About these events

Creating stories from Art

Sunday January 15th @ 2:00PM

Learn about the classic form of ekphrasis—a vivid retelling of a work of art—to contemporary art including visual art, music, movies and more. In this hands-on writing workshop, attendees will learn about the tradition of writing about art and then use those newfound skills to create their own story or poem that references a piece of artwork. This event is family-friendly, beginner-friendly (however, we’re pretty sure experienced writers would have fun with this too!), and open to the public.

Art From Anything: Blackout Poetry

Sunday January 22nd @ 2:00PM

If you look closely enough, you can find art in anything! In this workshop we’ll be focusing on a form of poetry known as Blackout Poetry, which is the art of using text from newspaper, magazine, the back of a cereal box, etc., to make a unique poem from something that already exists. In this workshop, attendees will learn about blackout poetry and then use those newfound skills to create blackout poetry of their own. This event is family-friendly, beginner-friendly (however, we’re pretty sure experienced writers would have fun with this too!), and open to the public.

Paint & Write

Sunday January 29th @ 2:00PM

For this workshop, we’ll discuss ekphrasis, or poems and stories that reference art, but this time with a twist! Attendees will spend the first half of the workshop creating artwork of their very own. After their masterpieces are complete, there will be an art swap where attendees write a story or poem about their peer’s artwork. This event is family-friendly, beginner-friendly (however, we’re pretty sure experienced writers would have fun with this too!), and open to the public.
