The Event

Indy Reads is excited to host: “What’s in a Canon?”

This question and the investigation of possible answers will be a guiding force in the future of Indy Shakes.

Inspired by our desire to broaden representation at every facet of our organization, and by the “Expanding the Canon” efforts of the Hedgepig Ensemble in Brooklyn, NY, the “What’s in a Canon?” initiative will expand the scope of artistry and points of view represented in our work by including plays by playwrights of all races, ethnicities, and genders (especially those whose backgrounds are historically underrepresented) and living playwrights.

The reading will be directed by Maria Argentina Souza and will feature the following actors: Victoria Betances, Christopher Centinaro, Ian Cruz, Kidany Camilo, and Bryan Montemayor, with stage directions read by Nathalie Cruz.
