SUMMARY:Drag Story Hour with Prince Brentlee and Aqua Marie!
DESCRIPTION:Join Prince Brentlee and Aqua Marie for our monthly Drag Story Hour!\n\n\nThe Event \nDrag Story Hour uses the art of drag in children’s story hours to spread literacy\, love\, and acceptance! Join our local storytellers\, Prince Brentlee and Aqua Marie\, as they capture the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and give kids a glamorous and positive role model. This is a family-friendly event\, and all ages are welcome! \n\n\n\nPrince Brentlee (he/they) is the drag pop sensation of Indianapolis that has more energy than a can of Red Bull spiked with a 5hr energy. They are always filled to brim with unicorn energy and enjoy spending each story hour with their little royal friends. Their favorite book as a kid was Where The Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. \n\n\n\nAqua MarieHey my name is Aqua Marie. She/her are my pronouns in drag. I have been doing Drag since November 2023. I have helped with the Indy Drag Theater with a few productions. I have my B.S. in Early Childhood Administration\, so I have a huge passion for reading stories with children. I love that I get to use this to bring two of my passions together and share that with others! \n\n\n\nThis event is Pay What You Can — Here’s what your Suggested Donation can do for the Indy Reads community: \nFREE – This ticket is for attendees that would like to attend this event and are unable to purchase a ticket. Indy Reads values our community and facilitators. We are proud to provide programming to all. Thank you for being a part of our community! \n$10 – This donation covers the cost of one attendee to this event. Indy Reads strives to bring the very best programming to Fountain Square and all Hoosiers. Thank you for helping us to keep our quality programs accessible for all! \n$20 – This donation covers the cost of two attendees to this event. If you are attending as an individual\, your ticket at this level makes it possible for another who cannot afford a ticket to attend. It is only through the generosity of our community that we are able to support programs that enrich the lives of all Hoosiers. Thank you for your support! \nOther – “Pay What You Can” really does mean pay what you can. Indy Reads appreciates that every one of our community members is able to support our vision of 100% literacy for all in different ways. Whether you can pay $5 or $50\, we are so excited to see you – and thank you for your support!

SUMMARY:Riot Reads Book Club
DESCRIPTION:For February\, we’re reading Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin! \n\n\n\nWe will meet at Indy Reads\, as usual. To get to the room\, pass the checkout counter\, go down the hall\, and take a left. Masks welcome\, but not mandatory. \n\n\n\nAbout the Riot Reads Book Club \n\n\n\nInterested in reading books by authors whose voices are often pushed to the margins? Join this book club focusing on books about social justice from authors who know what they’re talking about. Topics include culture\, disability\, politics\, race\, religion\, sexuality\, sex and gender\, socioeconomic status\, and anything else we want to put on the table. \n\n\n\nWe understand that life gets busy. And we also get that\, for many of us\, talking about books is a launching pad to talk about the things most important to us. So\, even if you haven’t had a chance to finish the book (or even get that far into it…)\, please feel free to join us for a lively discussion. Anyone is welcome! \n\n\n\nAbout Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin \n\n\n\nNEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Sam and Sadie—two college friends\, often in love\, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design\, where success brings them fame\, joy\, tragedy\, duplicity\, and\, ultimately\, a kind of immortality. It is a love story\, but not one you have read before.“Delightful and absorbing.” —The New York Times • “Utterly brilliant.” —John Green \n\n\n\nOne of the New York Times’s 100 Best Books of the 21st Century • A Kirkus Reviews Best Fiction Book of the Century • A Los Angeles Times Best Fiction Book of the Last 30 Years • One of the Best Books of the Year: The New York Times\, Entertainment Weekly\, TIME\, GoodReads\, Oprah Daily \n\n\n\nFrom the best-selling author of The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: On a bitter-cold day\, in the December of his junior year at Harvard\, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees\, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform\, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment\, she pretends she hasn’t heard him\, but then\, she turns\, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. \n\n\n\nThese friends\, intimates since childhood\, borrow money\, beg favors\, and\, before even graduating college\, they have created their first blockbuster\, Ichigo. Overnight\, the world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old\, Sam and Sadie are brilliant\, successful\, and rich\, but these qualities won’t protect them from their own creative ambitions or the betrayals of their hearts. \n\n\n\nSpanning thirty years\, from Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, to Venice Beach\, California\, and lands in between and far beyond\, Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow examines the multifarious nature of identity\, disability\, failure\, the redemptive possibilities in play\, and above all\, our need to connect: to be loved and to love.

SUMMARY:Riot Reads Book Club
DESCRIPTION:For March\, we’re reading Bunny by Mona Awad. \n\n\n\nAbout Bunny by Mona Awad \n\n\n\n“We were just these innocent girls in the night trying to make something beautiful. We nearly died. We very nearly did\, didn’t we?” \n\n\n\nSamantha Heather Mackey couldn’t be more of an outsider in her small\, highly selective MFA program at New England’s Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people\, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort–a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other “Bunny\,” and seem to move and speak as one. \n\n\n\nBut everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies’ fabled “Smut Salon\,” and finds herself inexplicably drawn to their front door–ditching her only friend\, Ava\, in the process. As Samantha plunges deeper and deeper into the Bunnies’ sinister yet saccharine world\, beginning to take part in the ritualistic off-campus “Workshop” where they conjure their monstrous creations\, the edges of reality begin to blur. Soon\, her friendships with Ava and the Bunnies will be brought into deadly collision. \n\n\n\nThe spellbinding new novel from one of our most fearless chroniclers of the female experience\, Bunny is a down-the-rabbit-hole tale of loneliness and belonging\, friendship and desire\, and the fantastic and terrible power of the imagination. \n\n\n\nNamed a Best Book of the year by TIME\, Vogue\, Electric Literature\, and The New York Public Library
