Achieve your personal literacy goals with skilled teachers and volunteers who want you to succeed

Adults seeking to improve their foundational reading and writing skills to achieve personal literacy goals can receive personalized attention and instruction in our in-person and virtual Literacy Foundations classes.

Our Literacy Foundations students have many personal goals. Some want to improve their reading and writing skills to read everyday materials like street signs, health documents, and newspapers. Some want to improve their skills to be able to pass the written portion of the Indiana State Driver’s License test, fill out job and housing applications, and more. Whatever your goals, Literacy Foundations can help you succeed!

Indy Reads is the only adult education organization in Indiana that formally serves these students.

A student and volunteer review papers at Indy Reads

“I used to go get on the bus and I’d try to read some of the signs that I would go past. Now, I would go down and I’ll see that sign says ‘Adams’. I would look at the letters. Then I would always try to break the letters down. I can do that now and I couldn’t before!”
